WORLD AIDS DAY

DECEMBER 1st is WORLD AIDS DAY

Tonight on the eve of World AIDS Day I remember my friend Edward who died of AIDS related complications back in early 1997.  He died in the same month as my Grandmother Mary Alice.  At that time protease inhibitors had been around but people were still dying from AIDS.  For many years I've ignored this date but tonight I just couldn't let it pass without writing something.

AIDS is still a real threat to the health of so many people around the world.  Recently Annie Lennox wore and HIV POSITIVE black t-shirt while singing "Chain of Fools" with Aretha Franklin.  Annie Lennox is my favorite female singer and has been leading the fight to help women and children in Africa to get access to proper medication.  "Her SING charitable campaign provides treatment to South Africans, and has raised funds amounting to 2 million pounds since 2003."

When Annie sings people listen.
When she wears a t-shirt it brings awareness to millions.
Now that's the power of a true DIVA!
